inspiration
This collection is rooted in the intricate and soulful beauty of West African Hausa architecture, which speaks to both strength and elegance. The architectural symbols within Hausa design, particularly one that reminded me of an infinity symbol, inspired an embroidered laser-cut textile that weaves continuity throughout the collection.
In imagining this campaign, I originally envisioned a romantic outdoor setting tied to the cultural richness of the Hausa landscape. With a shift in location, I found a new way to bring this story to life. The Ohio Statehouse, with its grand European architecture and pink-walled interiors, offers an unexpected yet fitting stage for this collection. Its timeless structure mirrors the architectural harmony of Hausa design, blending strength with soft, romantic details.
The pink interior wall serves as a nod to the desert rose tree—a key inspiration for the collection's floral prints, textured organza, and 3D florals. This backdrop adds warmth and richness, capturing the elegance and natural beauty of the Hausa culture in a fresh and modern way.
The gowns themselves carry the architectural precision of Hausa artistry, softened by romantic and organic details. This juxtaposition of structure and softness mirrors the balance between tradition and modernity—a story of love, beauty, and resilience that resonates across cultures and settings.
While the location has changed, the spirit of the collection remains deeply rooted in its original inspiration. The campaign will reflect how love and beauty transcend borders, cultures, and even backdrops, much like the timelessness of the brides who wear these gowns.
