inspiration
The inspiration for this collection comes from the intricate and soulful beauty of West African Hausa architecture, which speaks to both strength and elegance. I was drawn to the architectural symbols found within Hausa designs, especially one that reminded me of an infinity symbol. To bring this to life, I developed an embroidered laser-cut textile inspired by that symbol, using it as a thread of continuity throughout the collection.
In imagining the collection, I envisioned a romantic scene where this architecture served as a backdrop, set against landscapes dotted with desert rose trees. I pictured a woman on the days leading up to her wedding, enveloped in a world both lush and architecturally striking. To honor the cultural depth of this vision, the campaign will be photographed on a horse farm pasture, where horses, significant in Hausa culture, bring a sense of authenticity and grandeur.
The gowns themselves reflect this setting—designed with an architectural structure but softened by romantic details. Alongside the laser-cut textile, I introduced a green floral print, textured organza, and 3D florals inspired by the desert rose, a subtle nod to the natural beauty of the landscape. Altogether, this collection is an expression of Delana Muse’s blend of structure and softness, celebrating a heritage of love, beauty, and resilience.
