Let me tell you a secret about body types… you have one and you dress it every day. Let’s get that out of the way. You are (probably) wearing clothes while wearing this and you will definitely wear clothes when you shop for bridal gowns. So what’s the big deal about body types? Why do they stress us out when looking for bridal gowns? Bridal gowns are important. You'll wear this gown on an important day, marry the love of your life, and the gown will have its own photo session. A bridal gown is not just a piece of clothing. I want to remind you that you know YOUR body. I'm encouraging you to forget about your shape and focus on looking good, just like you do every day. I knew about these body types: apple, pear, triangle, and rectangle. An apple shape means that you have a large belly and hip area. A pear shape is a woman with smaller busts and larger hips. You understand where I’m going with this. While researching this blog, I found out that there are more than 8 body types for women. Wow. And there are a lot of websites that allow you to see clothes for your specific body types. But again, let’s challenge that. Bridal boutiques don't have bridal gowns for apple-shaped women on one rack. The Delana Muse website doesn't allow you to filter bridal gowns by fit for triangular-shaped women. Why? Delana Muse allows you to try on gowns for 10 days and determine if you love the gown. You can pay attention to more than your body type, but feel the weight of the gown and the color of the gown. The option to try on a bridal gown at home is available for five bridal designs on the Delana Muse website. The weight and color of a bridal gown are more important than your body type. The option to filter gowns by body type is unavailable because you approach bridal shopping differently than any other shopping experience. Let me explain. Shopping for jeans to wear for date night and jeans to wear while horseback riding is different. Shopping for athleisure to lounge around the house is different from shopping for an outfit for the gym. When choosing a bridal gown, you must consider the season when you are getting married, the venue, the time of day. I am arguing that these factors are more important than your body shape. If you see a backless gown, you should consider it. Would that gown be too dramatic for you on Tuesday morning? Yes. Would that gown be enough flare for an evening wedding? Absolutely. Shop for your personal style. A bridal gown with lots of ruffles or appliqués may not work for you, but a gown with multiple layers may be flirty enough to catch your eye. Try the gown on! I hope I reminded you that the magical thing about getting married is that you've found someone who you love, someone who loves you, and you both agreed to spend your lives together.
Your beloved knows what your body looks like, but most importantly, YOU know what your body looks like. You know what shirts make you feel sexy and what dresses make you feel incredible. When shopping for a bridal gown, you have to trust your body and find something that works for you. So stop freaking out over your body type and dress to look good. That mermaid-shaped gown (whatever that means), might look incredible on you, but you have to try it on. Until next time, Kyla
